Lake Winnipesaukee Is an Indian Term meaning "Smile of the Great Spirit", located in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire at the foothills of the White Mountains. Lake Winnipesaukee is the largest lake in the state at 72 square miles. Surrounded by three mountain ranges, the wooded shoreline and crystal clear water of this spring-fed lake make it a popular summer resort and a place to rest and relax in beautiful surroundings and enjoy water sports of all sorts. Each town on the lake offers something unique. Weirs Beach has arcades and boardwalks, waterslides, a public beach and an activity center. Meredith is a restored mill village, where you can browse through antique, art and craft galleries. Wolfeboro is a picture perfect village, right down to its historic Main Street. Center Harbor, Moultonborough, Tuftonboro, Alton, Gilford and Laconia all have their own special flavor. All communities have public parks and docks, and feature varied activities such as fireworks displays and band concerts throughout the year...see more.
Squam Lake Formerly, Keeseenunknipee (meaning "goose lake in the highlands"), in 1800s, then in the 1900s to Squam, Squam Lake looks much like it did to its 1700 residents. Squam Lake, the 1981 film site for "On Golden Pond", is known as one of the most peaceful and pristine in the country and offers visitors plenty of opportunity to enjoy its natural beauty. Big and Little Squam lakes are naturally spring fed and connected by a channel in Holderness. Big Squam is 6,791 acres, 6 miles long, 4 miles wide and 98 feet deep with 61 miles of shoreline. It is the second-largest lake located entirely in New Hampshire. Little Squam is 408 acres, 2 miles long, 1/2 mile wide and 84 feet deep. The lakes are host to 67 islands...see more
Lake Winnisquam At 4,264 acres, it is the third-largest lake located entirely in New Hampshire. The lake is primarily fed by the outlet from Lake Winnipesaukee, and Winnisquam's outlet is the Winnipesaukee River, flowing to the Merrimack River. Winnisquam is 10.5 miles long by 1.5 miles wide and is the 4th largest lake located entirely in New Hampshire...see more
Newfound Lake, which some say is among the cleanest in the world, is 4,106 acres in size and is considered one of the deepest lakes in New Hampshire (168-feet deep at one point, and at another, 183 feet deep.) This pristine lake is about two and a half miles wide and seven miles in length. It is fed by 8 springs and has 22 miles of shoreline...see more.
Lake Sunapee is a 4100 acre lake surrounded by several beautiful state parks in the shadow of Mount Sunapee and Mount Kearsarge. It has a rural feel to it and is dotted with quaint smaller towns...see more
Ossipee Lake is located in the north eastern portion of the Lakes Region and has 3,092 acres. It is a quiet lake known for its fishing and proximity to the Conway area...see more
